SmartUp Accelerator is building bridges for consumer cleantech in Baltic Sea region

The transnational collaboration project between SmartUp Accelerator is up and running! Partners from seven countries around Baltic Sea have started to scan their regional consumer cleantech ecosystems and prepare for several national  events taking place in the spring.

In 2018, we are focusing on the topic of Smart Homes, therefore all acceleration activities, events and network building will be organised around the topics related to it. Smart Homes theme includes a wide variety of products and services in the fields of housing, energy, shared space, construction materials and home automation – concepts and technologies making housing and buildings smarter and more efficient.

Learnings from the TryOut Experiment Design Camp

At the end of April, TryOut teams gathered into two-day Experiment Design Camp held in Urban Sauna Kallio to further develop their business models and experimentation ideas co-creatively together with mentors and experts. First day was based on intense ideation aided by relevant mentors for each team. These included a wide range of people from the city of Helsinki, construction companies and universities, among others. Peloton Club: Smart Food – Reducing the climate footprint of food consumption is easy and fun

In December a good crowd of people gathered to Peloton Club Night, held by Demos Helsinki, to talk about sustainable food, to eat excellent kale pizza and to have some beers.

Because the climate footprint of food consumption is about as big as the impact from traffic or housing it is vital that we start consuming food in more sustainable way. The good news is, as we heard from the great panelists in Peloton Club, that we already have many solutions.

Does it have to do with for example air quality, nutrient recycling, greywater treatment, sustainable consumption, open data or data modelling? We are looking for cleantech and circular economy teams to develop and experiment solutions with the city of Helsinki and its inhabitants.
